THE ASK
Design a cohesive and versatile visual identity for Jacob Hoskins, an Indigenous electronic artist known for bending musical boundaries. Reflect the contrasts and intensity in the artist's music—merging light and dark, nature and city, tension and reprieve—while maintaining flexibility across various mediums, including album artwork, social media, and live performances.
THE RESPONSE
To embody Jacob Hoskins’ dynamic artistry, we crafted a brand identity that balances the familiar and the novel. This ethos ensures recognition while allowing creative liberty for evolving projects. The centrepiece of the visual identity is a primary logo featuring a radial blur within a rectangle, symbolizing honesty, solidarity, and stability. Embedded in this blur is a modernized Mi'kmaq hieroglyphic for “we” or “us,” honouring Hoskins' Indigenous roots and reinforcing his mission to foster community and connection through his music.
The brand’s visual language is cinematic, bold, and spiritual, reflecting Hoskins' unique soundscapes. A unique display typeface adds an edgy and contemporary tone, while the classic sans serif provides balance with its clean and approachable design. To complement the branding, we designed album artwork and a visualizer for his single "Hollywood," capturing the single’s conceptual essence and further showcasing the brand’s adaptability.
This identity is a flexible framework for future collaborations with artists and designers, ensuring cohesion while embracing innovation. It is a brand that evolves with Hoskins' creative journey, allowing his music and message to remain at the forefront.
