Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

THE ASK

Develop a cohesive and impactful visual identity for the Harvard Africa Health Conference, the first cross-Harvard initiative addressing the unique and complex healthcare challenges in Africa. Convey inclusion, ambition, and innovation while creating a compelling visual presence to engage students, professionals, and global stakeholders.

THE RESPONSE

To bring the Harvard Africa Health Conference’s vision to life, we crafted a visual identity that reflects its mission to inspire collaboration and innovation for Africa’s healthcare resilience. At the heart of the branding is a bold logo, derived from the Harvard Chan Africa Health Students Forum logo, featuring the African continent encircled within a single large dot. This design uses the circle to symbolize unity, protection, and perpetual movement, while the silhouette breaking beyond the boundary signals disruption and progress. The supporting color palette combines deep reds and maroons with vibrant accents, representing courage, ambition, and optimism.

The typography choices maintain a modern and accessible look, suitable for both professional and student audiences. We extended the visual identity into a comprehensive suite of brand assets, from social media templates and motion graphics to signage and submarks for smaller-scale applications. These elements ensure consistent and recognizable branding across physical and digital platforms.

Strategically, the branding encapsulates the conference’s core values of inclusion, ambition, and innovation. By integrating thoughtful storytelling into the brand tone, we created a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere that emotionally connects with attendees. This cohesive design language positions the conference as a hub for global thought leadership and innovation in African healthcare.
